Official birthday day went well – lovely day!
We woke to a cold but sunny morning here in Kalispell with amazing views across to the Rockies from our B&B.
An excellent breakfast cooked by Chef Gene (our host) made up for the lack of dinner last night and set us up for the day as we headed off to Glacier National Park. First up was a drive across the Going-to-the-Sun Road as far as we could go – 29 miles (road closed for repairs thereafter), a mountain route with spectacular views but not on Mrs L’s list of drives she would ever wish to do again!
Wildlife viewed to date consists of 4 deer, a squirrel, multiple chipmunks, a blue parrot and a white mountain goat that I initially thought might be a polar bear high up on the mountain – it did look like one through the binoculars!
Once back at a normal altitude and on safe ground we set out on the Trail of the Cedars walk, a 7.6 mile walk in total up to the Avalanche Lake – beautiful and stunning scenery. Mr L enjoyed it very much and agreed this was an ideal length of walk which included some reasonably steep hills. Good practice for Yellowstone!
Dinner tonight was very enjoyable back at the B&B with our hosts Gene and Anne Marie and another couple staying over tonight, Lynn and Dick from Canada.
Tomorrow is another long drive as we head down to Yellowstone.
